ZTA Achievements
Academic
- The sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are proud to have won Washington College's Loving Cup from 1994 to 2003, and 2005 to 2007. This award, given to one male fraternity and one female fraternity on campus, commemorates the Greek organization with the highest GPA during the past academic year. As a chapter, we continue to strive for academic excellence!!
Philanthropy
- In 1992, ZTA adopted The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as its national philanthropy. Later, the Fraternity broadened its focus to encompass not only the Komen Foundation, but also other educational means dedicated to fighting breast cancer through education, awareness and promoting breast health. Furthermore, each alumnae and collegiate chapter generally volunteers with one or more local philanthropy of its choosing in addition to their support of the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and ZTA's national philanthropy.Today, our National Philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.
- In addition to annually raising money for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness, breast examination shower cards are passed out to the dorms on campus every April. We also pass out pink ribbons during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, the sisters traveled to Baltimore City to take part in the Making Strides event, which raised over $250,000 for breast cancer research. This year's event was held on October 24th - we braved the rain and cold for a wonderful cause!
- The ZTA's of Washington College have started a new tradition to raise money for our philanthropy: The Mr. ZTA Male Beauty Pageant. Our chapter raises money to promote Breast Cancer research by selling tickets to the event, an in-house raffle, and a "Best Legs" contest. Male contestants participate in a Toga Contest, woo the judges with their Q&A Session, and show off during the talent portion of the program. Fun is had by all!
Service
- Every semester, our chapter also takes part in Adopt-a-Highway. The sisters usually enjoy going out to lunch after a few hours of cleaning up our part of the road in Chestertown.
- Every April, the six month check up point for women who were diagnosed in October, our chapter sets up a table in a local mall to help educate the public on Breast Cancer. We hand out shower cards and other information, as well as bring in local doctors and nurses to help us teach others about Breast Cancer.
- Sisters participate in the Relay For Life program to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
- Sisters also do service not associated with ZTA. We have sisters who take part in service groups such as Hands Out or Best Buddies, as well as sisters who have attended and plan to attend more of WC's Alternative Spring Break Habitat for Humanity project.
Fraternity
- The Sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are also happy to announce that they received the Crown Chapter Award, the Financial Excellence Award and the Quota Award at the National Leadership Conference this summer.
